About Yantar
Yantar (Янтарь, “amber”) was a Soviet watch brand associated primarily with the Chistopol Watch Factory in Tatarstan. Models appear in collector references from roughly the mid-1950s through the 1960s; as Soviet branding consolidated, Yantar was phased out in favour of the Vostok name by around 1969.
Not to be confused with Kaliningrad’s Yantar shipyard, these were mechanical Soviet wristwatches for the domestic and export markets. Surviving examples are collected as part of USSR horological history; the brand is historic rather than an active modern manufacture.
