About Wakmann

Wakmann was a Swiss-American watch importer and assembler founded by Icko Wakmann—business roots in Portugal in 1943, then Wakmann Watch Company in New York from 1946. The firm became known for Swiss chronographs, triple calendars, aviation watches and aircraft clocks, often finished or assembled in the U.S. to ease import duties.

A 1947 partnership helped create Breitling Watch Corporation of America. Wakmann faded during the quartz crisis of the 1970s. Collectors prize vintage Wakmann chronographs as part of mid-century American-Swiss distribution history; country coding follows the New York company centre.
