About Tissot
Tissot was founded in 1853 in Le Locle, in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, by Charles-Félicien Tissot, a casemaker, and his son Charles-Émile, a watchmaker. The firm began as an assembler of pocket watches and found an early export market in the Russian Empire, which Charles-Émile visited from 1858. In 1930 Tissot merged with Omega to form SSIH, the first Swiss watchmaking group, and in the same period it introduced one of the first mass-produced anti-magnetic wristwatches. Through the group's successive mergers it became part of SMH in 1983, renamed The Swatch Group in 1998.
Tissot has a record of material and technical experiments: the Astrolon of 1971 with a plastic movement, the RockWatch of 1985 in granite, and the T-Touch of 1999, whose sapphire crystal responds to touch to control compass, altimeter and barometer functions. Present-day lines include the Le Locle automatic, the Seastar divers, the Gentleman and the PRX, a 1978 integrated-bracelet design reissued in 2021. Tissot is official timekeeper of the NBA, MotoGP and the Tour de France.
