About Poljot
Poljot is the principal brand name of the First Moscow Watch Factory, established in 1930 with machinery and tooling bought from the bankrupt Dueber-Hampden company of Canton, Ohio, and shipped to Moscow. Early watches were sold under names such as Kirovskie and Pobeda; the factory also produced the Sturmanskie navigator's watch issued to air force pilots, one of which Yuri Gagarin wore on the first crewed spaceflight in 1961. The Poljot name, Russian for "flight", was introduced in 1964 and became the factory's main export brand.
Its most recognised movement is the calibre 3133, a manual-wind chronograph derived from the Valjoux 7734 and produced from 1976 on tooling bought from Valjoux in the mid-1970s. After the Soviet period the factory declined; chronograph production passed to MakTime in 2005 and ended in 2011. Watches under the Poljot name are still assembled by successor companies, and among vintage examples interest centres on the 3133 and Strela chronographs and on references tied to the space programme.
