About Piaget
Piaget was founded in 1874 by Georges Édouard Piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées, in the Neuchâtel Jura, where he set up a workshop on the family farm producing movements for other watch houses. The Piaget name was registered as a trademark in 1943, and under the founder's grandsons the firm turned to finished watches, jewellery and, above all, thinness. The hand-wound calibre 9P of 1957, at 2 mm, and the automatic calibre 12P of 1960, at 2.3 mm, established ultra-thin movements as the company's technical specialty and made possible the coin watches and hard-stone dials of the 1960s and 1970s.
The Polo, launched in 1979, added an integrated-bracelet sports watch; the Altiplano line continues the ultra-thin tradition, with the Altiplano 900P of 2014 measuring 3.65 mm overall. Piaget has belonged to the Vendôme Group, now Richemont, since 1988. Movements are still made in La Côte-aux-Fées, with cases, jewellery and headquarters in Geneva.
