About Omega
Omega began in 1848, when Louis Brandt opened a workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds assembling key-wound pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen. His sons Louis-Paul and César moved the business to Biel/Bienne in 1880 and in 1894 introduced the 19-ligne "Omega" calibre, built with interchangeable parts; its success led the company to adopt Omega as its name in 1903. Through the SSIH group (1930) and the 1983 merger with ASUAG, Omega became part of what is now the Swatch Group.
Omega has been official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932. The Seamaster (1948) and Constellation (1952) remain core lines; the Speedmaster chronograph, launched in 1957 and qualified by NASA in 1965, was worn on the Moon during Apollo 11 in 1969. In 1999 Omega put George Daniels's co-axial escapement into series production, and since 2015 its movements have been certified by METAS as Master Chronometers, tested to 15,000 gauss. De Ville completes the range.
