About NOMOS Glashütte
NOMOS Glashütte was registered in January 1990 by Roland Schwertner, a photographer and IT specialist from Düsseldorf, two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall; the first four models — Tangente, Orion, Ludwig and Tetra — appeared in 1992 with designs by Susanne Günther drawn from Bauhaus and Deutscher Werkbund principles. The company remains independent, with production in Glashütte, Saxony, and a design studio, Berlinerblau, in Berlin.
Until 2005 NOMOS used Swiss ETA and Peseux movements; its first in-house calibre, the hand-wound Alpha, appeared that year, and in 2014 it presented the NOMOS swing system, its own escapement, which freed it from external suppliers of escapement parts. The thin automatic neomatik calibres (DUW 3001 and its successors) followed in 2015. Later models include Club (2007), Ahoi (2013) and Metro (2014). NOMOS is a member of the Deutscher Werkbund and manufactures well above the 50% local share of movement value required by the Glashütte rule.
