About Mido
Mido was founded in 1918 in Biel/Bienne by Georges Schaeren; the name comes from the Spanish "yo mido", "I measure". The Multifort, introduced in 1934, combined automatic winding, shock and magnetic protection and water resistance in a single wristwatch and was the company's principal line for decades. In 1959 Mido presented the Commander with a one-piece case, and its Aquadura crown seal, made of natural cork, was for a long time a feature of its water-resistant models. Mido is today part of the Swatch Group and is based in Le Locle.
The current collections — Multifort, Commander, Ocean Star, Baroncelli and Belluna — are automatic watches built on Swatch Group movements, many in COSC-certified versions, and since 2002 the brand has presented each line with reference to a work of architecture, from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Eiffel Tower. Mido is among the largest producers of certified chronometers in Switzerland.
