About Luminox
Luminox was founded in 1989 by Barry Cohen as an American company; its watches are Swiss Made, and since 2016 the brand has belonged wholly to the Swiss Mondaine Group, which took a 50% stake in 2006. Its distinguishing technology is self-powered illumination: instead of luminous paint that must be charged by light, the hands and markers carry sealed tritium gas tubes that glow continuously for years. The first Navy SEAL watch, developed from 1992 with a US Navy SEAL officer and released in 1994, introduced the brand's Carbonox carbon-composite case; a later series of pilot's watches, made in partnership with Lockheed Martin, referenced aircraft such as the SR-71 and the F-117.
The catalogue is organised into Sea, Air, Land and Space lines, mostly quartz, with cases in Carbonox and steel. The Navy SEAL series remains the brand's most recognisable family.
