About Glashütte Original
Glashütte Original was formed in 1994 when the East German state watch combine VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB), created in 1951 by nationalising the town's remaining watch firms, was privatised after reunification. The company thus inherits the traditions of Glashütte, where Ferdinand Adolph Lange began watchmaking in 1845, and it uses the typical Saxon construction: three-quarter plate, swan-neck fine adjustment, screwed gold chatons and hand-engraved balance cocks. The Swatch Group acquired it in 2000. All calibres are developed and made in Glashütte, and dials come from the company's own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, acquired in 2006.
Signature models include the PanoMaticLunar and PanoReserve, with their off-centre layouts and Panorama Date, the Senator Chronometer, the Sixties and Seventies lines drawn from GUB-era designs, and the SeaQ dive watch introduced in 2019, which references the 1969 Spezimatic Type RP TS 200. The company also runs the Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking and the German Watch Museum Glashütte.
