About Ebel

Ebel was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1911 by Eugène Blum and Alice Lévy; the name is an acronym of "Eugène Blum et Lévy". Alongside its own watches the company long made pieces for other houses, among them Cartier in the 1970s and 1980s. Under Pierre-Alain Blum, the founders' grandson, Ebel became one of the more visible Swiss names of the 1980s: the Sport Classic of 1977, with its screw-set bezel and wave-link bracelet, and the 1911 line of the mid-1980s belong to his tenure, and in 1981–82 the company bought unused Zenith El Primero movements for its chronograph calibre 134 at a time when Zenith itself had shelved the calibre.

The family sold the brand to Investcorp in 1994; LVMH acquired it in 1999 and sold it to Movado Group in 2003, which still owns it. The current catalogue is built around the Sport Classic, Wave, Discovery and 1911 families, with Swiss quartz and automatic movements.
