About Doxa
Doxa was founded in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by Georges Ducommun, then twenty-one years old. Its early reputation was built on an eight-day movement patented in 1907 and fitted to dashboard clocks; from 1911 Doxa supplied them to Bugatti. The brand's modern identity dates from 1967 and the SUB 300, a dive watch developed with input from Jacques Cousteau's circle and distributed in the United States by his company US Divers. Its orange dial, chosen for legibility in murky water, and its bezel engraved with the US Navy no-decompression table became the house signature. The SUB 300T of 1969 is generally credited as the first commercially available dive watch with a helium release valve.
Doxa was acquired by Aubry Frères in 1978 and ceased operations in 1983; the Jenny family bought and revived the brand in 1997. Today it is an independent Swiss company focused almost entirely on the SUB family, with Jan Edöcs as chief executive since 2019.
