About Bulova

Bulova was established in New York in 1875 by Joseph Bulova, an immigrant from Bohemia, first as a jewellery business and then as a maker of wristwatches and clocks. The company's technical reputation rests largely on the Accutron of 1960, the first watch regulated by an electrically driven tuning fork rather than a balance wheel; it hummed rather than ticked and was guaranteed accurate to one minute a month. In 1971 the Apollo 15 commander David Scott wore a Bulova chronograph on the lunar surface after the crystal of his issued watch came off, an episode revisited by the modern Lunar Pilot line.

Bulova has been owned by Citizen since 2008. Its present catalogue is built around quartz movements, including the Precisionist and Curv calibres running at 262 kHz with a continuously sweeping seconds hand, alongside automatic models and reissues from the archive. Accutron was relaunched as a separate brand in 2020, and Caravelle and Wittnauer remain sister labels.
