Baltic was founded in Paris in 2017 by Etienne Malec, whose interest in watches came from a collection of vintage pieces, and the notebooks describing them, left by his father, a photographer. The brand launched on Kickstarter in May 2017 with two models, the time-only HMS 001 and the two-register Bicompax 001 chronograph, both in 38 mm stepped cases with domed acrylic crystals modelled on watches of the 1940s; the campaign raised more than ten times its 50,000-euro goal.

The Aquascaphe dive watch followed in 2019, and the MR01 of 2021 introduced a micro-rotor automatic calibre behind a grained dial with applied Breguet-style numerals. Baltic uses movements from outside suppliers such as Miyota and Seagull, designs its watches in Paris and assembles them in France. The current range comprises the HMS, Bicompax, Aquascaphe, MR01 and Hermétique lines.
